How HyreGarage works

What are the six steps?

You tell us the job, your zip code and what the door is doing. We check what is available near you, reply to you first, and you decide what happens next.

1. Tell us what you need. Repair, springs, an opener, a new door, a new install, a conversion or garage organization. Not sure which? Say so. "Not sure yet" is on the form.
2. Give us your zip code. Garage door rules are local. Wind-load rules, battery backup laws, permits and licensing all change by area, and so does who can legally work there.
3. Tell us what the door is doing. Describe what happens, step by step. "It lifts four inches and stops" helps more than "the opener is broken", because those are often two different faults.
4. We look at what is available near you. We check what we can verify for your area and your kind of job. That differs by state. Some license garage door work, some fold it into a general contractor license, and some do not license it at all.
5. We reply to you first. We answer your question and tell you what we can offer where you live. Nothing goes to a company before you agree.
6. You decide what happens next. Talk to a company, ask for a quote, or keep reading. There is no obligation, and the guides and calculators never ask for your details.

What does HyreGarage do?

• Publishes free help. Garage door guides, ten calculators and original research. Nothing is gated.
• Reads your project. A person reads the details homeowners send when they want to be connected.
• Checks what it can. We look at what can be verified about garage door companies in an area.
• Plans to introduce you. We intend to connect homeowners with companies serving their area, and we say where our information is incomplete.

What does HyreGarage not do?

• No garage door work. We do not repair, replace or install doors, springs or openers.
• No guarantees. We do not supervise, warrant, guarantee or finance anyone's work.
• No remote diagnosis. A broken spring belongs with a local company today, not with us.
• No rankings or selling data. We do not rank companies, publish reviews or sell your details.

How might HyreGarage be paid?

We expect garage door companies to pay us for introducing homeowners to them. You are never charged anything. The page for garage door companies covers the other side, and our lead quality standard lists what we check about an inquiry before it goes anywhere.

The risk in that model is that money starts to shape the advice. Our editorial policy keeps them apart. A business relationship does not change what we say about a material, a spring rating, a warranty or how to judge a company.

It is also why our research publishes findings that do not help us sell. For example, the widely quoted 268 percent return on a new garage door is a survey estimate, not a measured result. Our ROI research explains why.

What happens to my information?

• We use it to answer you. And to find companies that fit your job. That is the only reason we collect it.
• No company gets it without your OK. Nothing is passed on until you agree, and we do not sell lists.
• Your phone number is optional. Agreeing to calls cannot be a condition of using the service, so the form sends without it.
• You can have it deleted. Just ask. The privacy policy explains what we store and for how long.
